Dining out is tricky when you are concerned about calories, portion size and sticking to a healthy diet. WellScale is a portable smart scale that provides you with the weight of your food, as well as caloric and other nutritional information.
The scale has a Bluetooth 4.0 chip to connect with iOS or Android smartphones. By placing the food on the scale, users will receive nutritional information through the associated app.
The WellScale app comes with a virtual advisor of sorts, that helps to provide users with feedback about their food in real time. Users can set their own health goals and will receive warnings and tips from the advisor based on the food that is inputed. Warnings include letting the user know when they have too many calories or sugar in their meal, or if they need to add more nutrients, based on their goals.
"There are currently no scales on the market that consumers can take to restaurants, bars, or parties. WellScale gives consumers the assurance of knowing exactly what they’re eating, no matter the situation," said Hugo Freire, a developer at WellScale.
WellScale is currently running an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for production of the smart scale. Backers can pre-order WellScale for $65, which is expected to begin shipping in December.
