Driving long distances isn't always fun. Truck drivers have to do these long, monotonous stretches on the highway on a regular basis, and things can get pretty boring (and dangerous). And the driving doesn't really allow for multi-tasking. Mercedes-Benz has designed a semi-autonomous vehicle that could help drivers make these long trips more interesting.
The company recently demonstrated the new vehicle called Future Truck 2025. It works by using a combination of radar and stereo cameras to stay on the right course, once it's up to the correct speed. The driver then has more time to stay in touch with family or complete other work. The truck also has the option to communicate with other vehicles for information on construction or traffic. If an ambulance comes speeding by, it will automatically move out of the way.
However, you'll have to wait awhile for the semi-autonomous vehicle. Mercedes anticipates that Future Truck 2025 will be in production in a decade or so (hence its name).
