Dubai's latest record-breaking project is to create a huge, climate-controlled city center called Mall of the World. The 48 million square-foot complex will include 100 apartment and hotel buildings, a slew of medical services, a huge shopping mall and what is being referred to as the world's biggest indoor amusement park.

“We announced recently that we plan to transform Dubai into a cultural, tourist and economic hub for the two billion people living in the region around us; and we are determined to achieve our vision," said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

The designers have been inspired by central aspects of New York, London, and other metropolitan cities with history. The entire "city" can be experienced without actually ever having to go outside, which is especially enticing for Dubai's hot summer months. In the winter, the center will have some pedestrian street roofs and park domes that will retract for natural air circulation.

Mall of the World's goal is to become a year-round tourist attraction for locals and visitors from abroad. This would help in transforming the UAE in a year-round vacation spot, rather than a seasonal tourist attraction.

The designers also say the entire structure will be eco-friendly.
