SURE Architecture has proposed a 984-foot high skyscraper to serve as a self-contained vertical city in London. The city would included housing, offices, shops and parks, essentially serving as its own ecosystem. Ramps would connect different sections of the tower, which means that tenants would never have to leave.
According to Geek Exchange, the firm says the project is aimed to “maximize passive energy and reduce artificial light, cooling and heating needs.” The building's open center allows sunlight to shine in and provide light to the interior.
SURE hopes to stop already dense cities from spreading outwards in an attempt to find solutions to the growing lack of available land and increasing city populations.
