Most people, especially those living in houses, leave their air conditioning on all day throughout the summer, whether they are home or not. Honeywell Home Comfort & Energy Systems has found a solution in Lyric, a smart thermostat that does all the work for you, so you can stay cool and even save some money.
Lyric tracks the schedule of your whole family through your iPhones. Using geofencing, it basically creates an invisible fence around your home, which signals when the A/C should be one or off, depending on if someone is home or not.
“It’s a way to say, don’t worry about it,” Tony Uttley, Homewell's VP and general manager, told Fast Company. “There’s nothing to learn, no schedule to remember. If you have a day you’re home at 6 and one you’re home at 10, it’ll all work out.”
Lyric gives you the option of setting up two fences. The first is better suited for urban dwellers with a 500-foot perimeter around your house. The second is a seven-mile perimeter, which is designed for car commuters. This way, your home is already the perfect temperature by the time you get there.
The Lyric thermostat is set to hit shelves in August, retailing for $279.
