Cloud Citizen is a proposal for a high-tech skyscraper from Urban Future Organization and CR-Design, alongside a team from Chalmers Technical University. The proposal for a green, hyper-dense city across from Hong Kong is the winner of the Shenzhen Bay Super City Masterplan Competition.
On the one hand, Cloud Citizen shows how future cities can be built to give more to the environment than it takes. One the other, it is a mega building complex that gives character to a skyline and envisions a future in which human enterprise can foster sustainability.
The proposal focuses on a connected mega structure that stands 680 meters high. The three-dimensional structure is suspended in the air and provides public and office space, with the hopes of creating an IT industry cluster that includes commercial, leisure and cultural space.
In addition to the space, Cloud Citizen could become an integral part of the ecosystem. It harvests rainwater and generates power from the sun, wind and algae. It also stores carbon and filters particles from the air. The proposal includes a plant sanctuary and food production modules, while skyparks bring residents closer to nature.
